Werner Kaegi

(1901–1979)

The historian Werner Kaegi occupied the Foundation's present premises until his death. His posthumous estate and large library reflect his wide-ranging interests and teaching activities, extending from late Antiquity to the nineteenth century. The main emphases fall on Humanism, the Enlightenment, and nineteenth-century intellectual history, with a rich section devoted to Jacob Burckhardt and to the writing of history in general.
