... for Two Pianos and Percussion
Béla Bartók / Balz Trümpy

On 16 January 1938 Béla Bartók's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion, a work commissioned by Paul Sacher, received its première performance in the Great Hall of the Basel Academy of Music.

To celebrate this 'small jubilee', the Paul Sacher Foundation published a facsimile edition of two major handwritten sources for Bartók's masterpiece and joined forces with the Basel Academy in a concert performance. When the Academy celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2017, it took the occasion of this 'great jubilee' to commission a new piece of music from Balz Trümpy. The result, a Fantasy for Two Pianos and Percussion (2016-17), was presented for the first time together with Bartók's Sonata.
