Ligeti Labyrinth / Ligeti-Labirintus
Exhibition on the work of György Ligeti with documents from the Paul Sacher Foundation
25.04.2023
On the occasion of the 100th birthday of György Ligeti (1923–2006), Anna Dalos and Márton Kerékfy of the Musicological Institute Budapest, together with Heidy Zimmermann, curator of the György Ligeti Collection at the Paul Sacher Foundation, conceived of the traveling exhibition Ligeti Labyrinth.
The exhibition presents a wide variety of documents from the multifaceted Ligeti Estate: sketches and drafts of instructive colorfulness, calligraphic manuscripts, photographs and other documents from his life, as well as audio and video material. In nine chapters, central aspects of Ligeti's work – which on the one hand is committed to the musical tradition, but on the other hand reaches out to new possibilities – are addressed: the composer makes references to jazz or to folklore from all continents, as well as to extra-musical phenomena in the visual arts or to findings of the natural sciences.

Catalogue
The exhibition will be accompanied by a richly illustrated catalogue published in three languages (Hungarian, English, and German).
